Those are really neat spiders; we have a closely-related species, Gasteracantha canceriformes, here in the US, that has the same spiky "shell". How big are the ones in Australia, by the way(hard to tell from a picture)? Ours are very small, with the bigger females no larger than my pinkie nail, and the males are extremely tiny.
